Meet Simran Bhatia LMFT, grief therapist in the San Francisco, Bay Area

You’re not sure how you got here, but it just doesn’t feel right. You want to move forward somehow but don’t know how. Everything feels hard and you wish things were different.

My first job is to make sure you feel heard and understood. I want to hear your story and understand who you are, how you got here, and from there we’ll chart a path that feels congruent with your values. 

You’ve heard of the 5 stages of grief, and you’ve felt them all, but you still feel sad and depressed. So much time has passed since the loss and you don’t understand why you “can’t get over it.” You’ve heard all the grief cliches and they only make you feel worse. 

I trained at a hospice agency providing grief counseling and understand the magnitude of loss and how it can upend one’s life. 

Sessions with me have been described as kind, compassionate, and thoughtful.

My Mission

Born and raised in California, I started my professional career in finance before transitioning to this field in 2014, and have been working as a therapist since 2015. I often get asked what made me decide to leave the finance world to become a therapist. At some point I realized that I wanted to do more with my life than increase shareholder value. I once read that it’s impossible not to love someone once you’ve heard their story. It became my mission to hear people’s story in therapy, understand them, and help them on a path moving forward.
